Want to learn more? We'll be posting project updates and information here, but also please consider attending some of public meetings. The first one is February 29th, 2016 - it's approaching quickly and hope to see you there!

First Public Meeting Details:
Monday, February 2: come and hear an overview of the Wrangell economy and community housing, along with an Institute property site analysis. Provide feedback as we begin to develop planning and design options for the site that reflect the needs and desires of your community.

Welcome to the Project Blog!

The City of Wrangell has begun a master planning effort for the 134 acre Institute Property adjacent to Shoemaker Bay. The goal of the planning effort is to get community input and direction in determining the desired development for the site. Part of the work is to assess the current housing needs for the community and integrate these priorities into the master planning effort while creating a vibrant and desirable neighborhood. Due to the proximity of the site to the Old Mill, Shoemaker Harbor, and recreation opportunities along Institute Creek, there may be a desire to include other development opportunities to support for these surrounding facilities and create economic opportunities for the neighborhood and community of the whole. The master planning effort will be developed to allow phased implementation based on priorities and funding opportunities with direction provided by the public and the City of Wrangell.
