Preferred Master Plan

Based on input received by the public on Monday, June 13 the design team spent the following two days consolidating comments to develop a preferred master plan. Based on the plan we have also developed a road layout and conceptual subdivision plan to support the master plan. These plans were presented to the public on Wednesday, June 15th. We would appreciate any comments and input on these plans to allow us to finalize the work this summer.

Welcome to the Project Blog!

The City of Wrangell has begun a master planning effort for the 134 acre Institute Property adjacent to Shoemaker Bay. The goal of the planning effort is to get community input and direction in determining the desired development for the site. Part of the work is to assess the current housing needs for the community and integrate these priorities into the master planning effort while creating a vibrant and desirable neighborhood. Due to the proximity of the site to the Old Mill, Shoemaker Harbor, and recreation opportunities along Institute Creek, there may be a desire to include other development opportunities to support for these surrounding facilities and create economic opportunities for the neighborhood and community of the whole. The master planning effort will be developed to allow phased implementation based on priorities and funding opportunities with direction provided by the public and the City of Wrangell.
